The director/theorist of horror Wes Craven has produced many horror films such as the original Scream the 1996 film. His main idea is that bad things should happen in safe places as they are more unexpected and therefore more scary. In his film Scream it is mostly set in a school however the film starts in a house where the victim thinks that they will be safe however they end up trapping themselves in their own safe location. He also believes that blonde girls tend to be the best for victims as they appear to be the most vulnerable, they will be dressed in white often as well the demonstrate their innocence.

This is the school that was used in the film Scream, as you can see it looks like an ordinary school where nothing much would happen. However, at the same time it does have quite an old feel to it which links in to the use of it in a horror film.
This is the house from the opening scene in Scream, it is shown in this establishing shot. Its a large house that is surrounded by woodland so that it is quite secluded. The swing in the foreground adds a touch of suspense to the eerie shot. It is a safe area as it is the persons house however it looks as if a murder could actually happen here.
